I bet you’re expecting me to boast about our fabulous new issue. Ordinarily, I would – it really is an exciting issue – however my mind wanders elsewhere….
If you’ve lived long enough, you’ve got to be prepared to expect ‘the unexpected’ which is exactly what happened this past month. Eagerly into production for our November issue, the Northeast in the States was blind-sighted by the fierceness of storm Sandy.
With that in mind, as publisher, I was left with a decision: remain on schedule or try to help those in need… obviously the latter was chosen.
New York, New Jersey as well as all surrounding areas were devastated by the storm and, immediately, the magazine was put on hold and a team was sent to NY to try to assist those in need.
And there were/are many in need: in less than 24 hours neighborhoods were converted into war zones. My hometown being Long Island, NY, I was shocked and saddened with the destruction caused by Sandy. Beaches and homes are in ruins and, to date, there are still many without power and living in unlivable conditions. Never in my life have I witnessed such destruction and yet, true to the spirit of New York, a good number of civilians joined in helping the many in need.
As we enter the holiday season, I suppose what lingers on my mind most is that which is important and matters much – regardless of where we come from, we are all connected ‘in the family of humanity’ and, as I often say, ‘no man is an island’. We never know when tragedy will occur and we really do need each other.
My wish for all of you is that your holiday season is filled with an abundance of love and peace carried through the New Year. And for those in the Northeast, my prayers remain with you and yours.
Let’s keep spreading that love and thank you for being supportive to Vigore! – you are truly the reason we are.
And now… let the show begin!
