Tracy Reese has always been a trendsetter and this year was no different as she showcased her Spring/Summer 2012 collection at Lincoln Center on September 11th.
While her usual design aesthetic of floral and lace were seen throughout the collection, her accessories of choice were certainly an eye catcher. Many of the pieces were complimented by small structured straw hats made by Jennifer Oullette and umbrellas that incorporated the lace and other fabrics from the gowns and other ensembles with which it was paired.
Tracy Reese has always been inspired by her surroundings, but this collection emphasized her love of art and nature. The pieces were light, airy and effortlessly feminine with a bohemian flair. As expected, the colors were vibrant, with punches of neon that caught the eye. As A-listers such as Angela Bassett, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Aisha Tyler & Solange Knowles looked on; there was an incessant parade of pretty, romantic dresses with fun flirty details that will certainly be a hot commodity for spring 2012. Other than her signature floral prints, the palazzo jumpsuits and the 50s inspired romper were an unexpected twist to an otherwise predictable line. The soft wavy hair with the french-roll on the side was an imaginative touch that complimented this collection. This helped us to envision the story of the carefree jetsetter, who is romantic at heart, which she seemingly wanted to convey.
It’s possible that Tracy Reese has adapted to the cliché, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it,” as she will always give her loyalists what they want. She has been a mainstay in the fashion industry as her ability to stay true to her design aesthetic, while injecting subtle updates to keep her current, is unwavering. It is this business philosophy that has made her collections timeless and this collection is no exception.
